The above competition is targeted at First Additional Language English high school learners in grades 11 and 12 with the aim of improving oral English communication in young South Africans who do not have English as a first language or mother tongue. It also serves to assist them in leadership development, presentation skills and personal growth. There are also lucrative prizes to be won at Provincial and National level.
Schools are invited to participate in the District leg of the above competition. Participation is limited to one learner per school and educators are advised to prepare learners for the required format.
The winners of this competition will participate at the Western Cape Provincial Contest on 6 June 2009 at 10h00. The location and venue will be confirmed.
The provincial winner will receive R1,000 while the first and second runners-up will receive R800 and R500 respectively. The winning school will also get R1000.
The winner of the Western Cape Provincial Contest will compete at the National Finals in Johannesburg on Saturday 20 June 2009. The prize money for the National Finals is a R30,000 bursary for the national winner, R20,000 for the first runner-up and R15,000 for the second runner-up. The respective winning schools receive R10,000, R7,000 and R5,000 respectively.
